Wrapping Up the Week 8/21!!!
Another Great Week at LAK!
We had another great week at Lakeview! Our students continue to settle into their routines and show what it means to live out our CORE values—Community, Order, Respect, and Excellence.
On Wednesday, we completed our tornado “Shelter” drill, and our students did a fantastic job! We were able to get all students to their designated shelter locations in under three minutes. Most importantly, students did a great job following directions, staying calm, and practicing the safety procedures we have in place.
It’s been another great week of learning, growing, and building our Lakeview community. We are so proud of our students and the way they continue to rise to the occasion!

NEW: Free and Reduced-Price Lunch Applications-
Free and reduced-price lunch applications must be renewed every school year.
If your child received free or reduced-price meals last school year, you must complete a new application for the 2026–2027 school year by September 15, 2026. If an application is not submitted by this date, your child will be charged the full-price meal rate.

🌱 NEW: STEM Highlight-
Mr. G took Ms. Helms’ Pre-K class on a scavenger hunt today! Our youngest learners had the opportunity to explore their surroundings, observe nature, and discover what they could find along the way.
Experiences like these are a great example of how we live out our STEM vision at LAK…Rooted in Nature, Growing in STEM!

Did you know Grandparents Day is September 13th? To celebrate grandparents and all of the special grown-ups in our students’ lives, our PTO is hosting Donuts with Grown-Ups!
Have your student bring your special grown-up to enjoy a sweet treat and spend some time together at LAK! 🧡

🩺NEW: Important Information from the Nurse-
This year, MCCSC is partnering with SchoolCare for medical records and documentation. SchoolCare is a HIPAA and FERPA-compliant program. In order to best care for your student while they are at school, please be sure to create your SchoolCare account and complete the emergency health card noting any important medical conditions or needs. Links to create your account have been sent to parent/guardian email addresses that are listed in Skyward (please check your spam/junk folder). The email should have come from the following email address: support@caredox.com

🦁 NEW: Calling All 4th–6th Graders: Student Council!
Student Council is an amazing group at LAK that works on school and community projects throughout the year!
If your 4th–6th grader is interested, encourage them to apply! Students have already heard about the opportunity and may have picked up an application.
As you talk with your child about Student Council, remind them that members should exemplify our CORE values—Community, Order, Respect, and Excellence and be positive leaders at Lakeview.

🎉REMINDER: PTO Update-
Our PTO held their first meeting of the school year on Wednesday evening in the library at 6:00, and the turnout was amazing!
Thank you to all of our parents who showed up to support our students and teachers. We are so grateful for your involvement and willingness to help make Lakeview a great place for our kids!
Donuts with Grownups will be the first event hosted by PTO this year, followed by our Fall Festival, which is our biggest event of the year! Any and all support is welcome for either event. If you’re interested in volunteering, helping with planning, or supporting in any way, please reach out to PTO.

🦷 REMINDER: School Smiles Dental-
The School Smiles Dentist is coming to our School on October 26th! All students who have signed up for the program and are eligible to be seen will be receive dental services on October 26th by the dental team. As a reminder, the dental team will set up in the school and see your child during the school day. School Smiles offers an Exam, Cleaning, X-Rays, Fluoride, as well as same day treatment if needed. This treatment can consist of Fillings, Sealants, or SDF. 🟧 REMINDER: Important Attendance Information-
We’d like to share important information regarding attendance and accountability, based on Indiana state laws. Regular school attendance is essential for your child’s academic growth and success.
If your student will be absent, please remember to call the main office at 812-824-7061, to let us know. Open and ongoing communication between home and school helps us support your child in the best possible way.
As a reminder, students who have 5 unexcused absences within a 10-week period will be contacted by the school to work together on an attendance improvement agreement. In accordance with the law, the school is also required to make a report to the Monroe County Prosecutor if a student accumulates 10 or more unexcused absences.

⏰ REMINDER: Arrival and Dismissal Reminders-
Families, thank you so much for your patience, flexibility, and grace as we settle into our arrival and dismissal routines. Transitions like these always take a little time, and we truly appreciate your support each day.
During the first few days of school, we began dismissal a few minutes early to help establish routines. Thanks to everyone's cooperation, the process has gone so well that we're ready to return to our typical dismissal times for each grade level as they report to their designated dismissal locations.
To help us continue improving the process, we've included a few key reminders below, along with a quick refresher on our traffic pattern. Please take a moment to review them—every small effort helps keep arrival and dismissal safe and efficient for all of our students and staff.
Arrival Reminders

Car Riders (Grades K–6):
If your child arrives after 9:35 AM, please park, walk them into the main office, and sign them in to document their tardy.Adults should remain in their car during drop-off. A staff member will assist your child with getting out of the car on the passenger side, if needed.
This helps keep traffic moving safely and efficiently for everyone.

Early Learning Entrance (Preschool, Pre-K, and Siblings):
If arriving after 9:30 AM, please park at the main entrance and walk your child into the building. Early Learning teachers return to classrooms at 9:30 and will not be available to greet students at that door after this time.
If it’s after 9:35 AM, you’ll also need to sign your child in at the main office .Adults should walk their child to an adult. Adult

All Early Learning students and their siblings who exit through the Early Learning entrance/exit are called to their dismissal location at 4:00 PM.
To help with a smooth and timely pickup, please plan to arrive as close to 4:00 as possible. This will give you enough time to exit the lot before bus traffic begins at 4:15 PM.
